\"\"Whaling Museum Tour<\/strong>
\nOn this <\/span>hour-long <\/span>guided tour of the Whaling Museum, <\/span>walk through our<\/span> galleries <\/span>which <\/span>cover themes including<\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/span> i<\/span>sland <\/span>p<\/span>eople, <\/span>w<\/span>haling <\/span>v<\/span>oyages, <\/span>the processing of oil, <\/span>and scrimshaw and decorative arts<\/span><\/span> and more<\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Together, these <\/span>exhibits<\/span> tell a broader story of the various industries that have sustained Nantucket, <\/span>what life has been like on the island over time, <\/span>and the <\/span>materials that have preserved th<\/span>a<\/span>t<\/span> history<\/span>.<\/span> Walking through with a Museum Guide<\/span>, <\/span>important objects will be <\/span>highlighted,<\/span> and<\/span> you will have <\/span>the opportunity to <\/span>ask questions<\/span> as you move through <\/span>the<\/span> museum<\/span> space<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gallery Tours<\/strong>
\nJoin us for a guided tour of a gallery of your choice. <\/span>The galleries focus on a range of different subjects, from Island People to Scrimshaw and Whaling. This tour will allow you to focus on a specific theme within Nantucket\u2019s history. <\/span>A Museum Guide will highlight <\/span><\/span>artifacts in that gallery that are indicative of themes <\/span>of the <\/span>gallery<\/span> and discuss the history of the subject matter<\/span> within the <\/span><\/span>broader<\/span><\/span><\/span> context of Nantucket history<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Historic Sites Tour
\n<\/strong><\/span>Visit one of <\/span><\/span>the Nantucket Historical Association\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/span> historic sites for a guided tour. Each site offers deeper insight into the <\/span>bigger themes<\/span> of Nantucket history thr<\/span>ough their own histories.<\/span> Museum Guides at the site will walk you through the property and highlight specific features of the building, bringing them to life with stories of <\/span>previous<\/span> vis<\/span>itors or occupants. <\/span>Our historic sites include <\/span>the Oldest House, Greater Light, the Old Mill, and the Old Jail. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Learn about the history of <\/span>Nantucket Island<\/span>, its two key industries<\/span><\/span>: whaling and tourism<\/span><\/span><\/span>, and its social dynamics <\/span>and movements <\/span>all <\/span>while immersing yourself in the historic downtown area. <\/span>Over the course of an hour, this tour visits significant buildings and sites in <\/span>town that represent the broader themes of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0N<\/span><\/span><\/span>antucket history<\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>This tour <\/span>begins at the Whaling Museum and concludes at the Friends\u2019 Meeting House on Fair Street.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The variety of ar<\/span>chitectural styles<\/span><\/span> downtown <\/span><\/span>acts as an important lens for understanding Nantucket\u2019s primary industries\u2014whaling and tourism and how they <\/span>impact<\/span> the is<\/span>land we know today. Following the lead of one of our Museum Guides, this hour-long tour highlights significant houses and architectural structures and elaborates on their histories within the <\/span>broader context of Nantucket history. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
