\"\"Drawing upon the NHA\u2019s rich collection of pictorial maps<\/span>, <\/span>this exhibition <\/span>celebrates a style <\/span>of <\/span>creative <\/span>map-making that<\/span> proliferated<\/span> in the early to mid-twentieth century.<\/span> Combining <\/span>whimsical decoration <\/span>with<\/span> historical detail<\/span>, pictorial maps were <\/span>popular decorations and island souvenirs. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Featuring early works by Tony Sarg (1880<\/span>\u20131942) <\/span>and Austin Strong<\/span> (188<\/span>1<\/span>\u201319<\/span>5<\/span>2)<\/span>, alongside <\/span>post-war <\/span>maps by Ruth Haviland Sutton (1900\u20131960)<\/span> and others, the <\/span>works<\/span> include<\/span> fanciful <\/span>details related to<\/span> Nantucket\u2019s maritime heritage, quaint architecture, and <\/span>plentiful tourist attractions<\/span> and activities<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum<\/a> in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in partnership with the Nantucket Historical Association, <\/span><\/span>Tony Sarg: Genius at Play<\/em><\/span><\/span> was on display at the Nantucket Whaling Museum in summer 2024 and was the first comprehensive exhibition exploring the life, art, and adventures of Tony Sarg (1880-1942<\/span><\/span>). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
