French Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nantucket Historical Association established the C.L.W. French Society to recognize individuals who contribute to the NHA at the highest levels.<\/p>\n<p>Named after Miss Caroline L.W. French of Boston, one of the earliest major donors to the NHA. Miss French was one of the benefactors of the NHA\u2019s purchase of the Quaker Meeting House in 1894, under the condition that the association raise a reserve to purchase the Old Mill should it come on the market. By helping to secure two of the NHA\u2019s most iconic properties, Miss French\u2019s support is felt more than a century later.<\/p>\n<p>Through this prominent giving society, the board of trustees acknowledges the generous total annual giving by our top individual donors to the NHA\u2019s operations. C.L.W.
